Blaine Johnson Memorial Automotive Machining Lab
The lab is a tribute to the late Santa Maria native and former AHC student who along
with his brother, Alan Johnson, won 4 NHRA Top Alcohol Dragster championships.
In 1999 the Blaine Johnson Memorial Golf Tournament was started and since then the
Foundation has generously supported the not only Automotive Technology, Machining
and Welding programs at AHC but also the students directly through scholarships.
Donated equipment includes:
- Valve grinder
- Seat and Guide Machine
- Sunnen Dial Bore gauges
- Sunnen Power Stroke Rod Hone
- Berco Crankshaft Grinder
- Engine Dynamometer cell electrical equipment
- Hines engine balancer
- Rottler CNC machining center
- Rottler cylinder hone
- Rottler variable speed boring center
- Welding storage cabinets
- Superflow Transmission Dynamometer
This state of the art equipment allows us to offer a full compliment of courses in
engine machining and performance including Engine Rebuilding, 2 courses in Engine
Machining (beginning and advanced) and a Special Projects course.
Students completing these courses have gone on to work for AJPE, manufacturer of the
Top Fuel cylinder heads and blocks, and many other top companies.
Faculty are ASE and AERA certified in Engine Machining and Repair.
With only a few colleges around the country offering advanced courses in this subject,
Allan Hancock College and the Blaine Johnson Memorial Engine Machining Lab will give
you an opportunity to get a great start in the world of engine machining. We welcome
students from any background or geographical area so if you are interested in learning
with the best students and faculty on the best equipment available, please contact
Patrick McGuire at (805) 922-6966 Ext. 3251 or by email through the AHC Directory.

Auto Body & Automotive Tech
"The education, knowledge, and hands-on experience I received here allowed me to discover and fuel my passion for cars. Eric Mason and the other auto body and automotive technology instructors pushed and inspired me to pursue a career in the industry. I was recently promoted to a full body technician in less than two years, which is half the time it usually takes. I credit Hancock for giving me the tools and confidence to succeed in the field, especially as a woman. I used what I learned at Hancock on a daily basis."
