At Allan Hancock College, we use the College Board Accuplacer test for placement into
English and math. The acronym 'START' is really the Accuplacer test!

The world of Math online
Provides 100 self-paced math exercises.
All students may retake the START placement test once under the following conditions:
- At least two weeks have passed since the first test
(to allow for extra study and preparation), AND
- The original test scores are within 5 points of reaching the next placement level
of math, English, and/or ESL .
If students do not meet the conditions, a matriculation appeal may be filed in the
Accuplacer test scores for English, reading, and ESL placements do not expire, and
students are not required to reassess. For math placement, a student's Accuplacer
test scores are valid for a period of three years. If a student does not enroll in
a credit math course within three years from their initial assessment, the student
is referred to reassess for math placement. The only exception to this recency requirement
is students who earned a grade of "C-" or better in high school geometry may use their
high school transcript for prerequisite clearance of geometry with no time limit.
